Epilogue
Militarily, the Hiigarans took a heavy pounding. More than
two thirds of their navy was destroyed in the battle, but
the Taiidan had fared far worse. Nearly all of their invasion
vessels were either destroyed or captured, with only two carrier
groups escaping.
With the defeat of the Imperialist forces over Hiigara, the
Imperialist Taiidan had their back broken. Subsequent mop
up operations pushed the Imperialists out of the Hiigaran
Defense Sphere, and soon the Hiigarans expanded their defense
sphere to a radius of seven light years. The Republican Taiidan
fought the Imperialists out of their territory, and conquered
even more systems of the former Empire. The Kadesh peacefully
joined the Kushan, and the two species became one again. The
Kadesh High Priestess became the chief religious advisor to
the Kushan-Sa. This was the beginning to restoration of the
Kushan Empire, but that was still a long time in coming.
Commodore Edson and Captain Saborn remained in Lightning
Fleet, and would become married after a major victory over
the Imperialists. However, Katharine Saborn would soon be
killed in the line of duty, leaving Edson a heartbroken, bitter
man. He would never again love another women, but would stalwartly
defend Hiigara until his forced retirement. He died a peaceful
death on Hiigara.
Privates Taaran and Aareis would eventually join the Special
Forces, where they served with distinction. Despite having
a very close relationship, the two never engaged in a romance
for reasons unknown (their Special Forces team was reputed
to have placed bets on when they would become married). Both
lived to see the dawn of a better day for Hiigara, and passed
on upon the soil of their Homeworld.
Captain Neisun continued to command the carrier Halo until
being ambushed by a Turanic Raider fleet. Rather than letting
the Raiders capture the carrier, the Captain Neisun scuttled
his ship with the loss of all hands. The last message received
from the Halo read, “Caught in ambush. Preparing to scuttle.
Farewell, Hiigara.”
Commodore Ward would go on to courageously defend Hiigara
against new threats. He went on to becoming a successful politician
on Hiigara after retiring. He died peacefully after years
of faithful service to his people.
